People Capital: The Right People in the Right Seats

Org charts show who reports to whom. People Capital is about what each seat is for, how it's measured, and where capacity is tight before it breaks.

Of the four intangible capitals that grow enterprise value, People Capital is the one leaders feel first and measure last. You know when the right person is in the right seat. You rarely know — until something breaks — where the org is quietly overloaded, underloaded, or held together by one person who can't be replaced.

Seats, not titles

An org chart is boxes and lines — who reports to whom. That's necessary, but it's not where People Capital lives. The value is in deliberate seat design: what each seat is actually for, what it's responsible for, and how its contribution is measured. A seat isn't a job title; it's a designed role with a purpose and a metric.

In the platform, that's the job of Seat Optimizer. It layers seat design on top of the org chart — purpose, responsibilities, and KPI definitions for every seat — so the metrics flow from "what is this seat for" rather than being invented separately. (Those KPI definitions then flow to Scoreboards, where the actual scoring happens — more on that in the Performance Capital article.)

What Seat Optimizer is — and isn't

It's a seat-design and capacity-diagnostics tool. It is not an HRIS, an applicant tracking system, or a workforce-planning tool — hiring, payroll, and recruiting are out of scope. And it creates KPI *definitions*, not scores.

Capacity you can see before it breaks

The expensive surprises in a growing company are capacity surprises — the seat that was silently overloaded until the person in it burned out, or the team that was underloaded while the work piled up elsewhere. People Capital means making capacity visible. Diagnostics like Revenue per Employee, overload flags, and underload flags surface in the executive Strategic Dashboard, so leadership can act before a seat breaks instead of after.

Building the bench, not just filling it

The other half of People Capital is the leadership bench. A company whose next wave of leaders is being deliberately developed is worth more than one betting on a single irreplaceable layer. TheFORGE is built for exactly that population — emerging leaders being forged into high-capacity ones — and it's anchored in the customer's own talent picture, the assessment data your people produced in ClientHub, so development is pointed at the leaders you actually want to grow.

Don't mistake it for an LMS

TheFORGE optimizes for leadership capacity gained, not courses completed. And selection is grounded in your own talent-assessment data — AI doesn't decide who gets developed.

Put together — deliberate seats, visible capacity, and a bench that's actually being built — People Capital moves value out of a few indispensable heads and into the design of the organization itself. That's what a buyer, an investor, or a successor is really paying for.
